50 years ago, a young engineer was tasked to develop a light-weight high-pressure aluminum cylinder to help Navy divers better accomplish their mission. That young engineer was Ian Albert, and his tank forging process went on to become the world-wide industry standard.

The success of that project ensured widespread recognition of his talent and innovation in metal forging technology. Ian went on to work with Jacques Cousteau, Parnelli Jones, and others to build on his new forging technology. This journey included the creation of many state-of-the-art forging facilities, and a remarkably successful scuba tank company.

Early in his forging career, Ian noted that the hand forging process, while requiring more engineering and labor, yielded a superior forging. Grain structure, internal stresses, and mechanical strength provided by hand forging are all superior to those achieved by rolled-plate.

Over the years, Ian, and his staff, have refined the hand forging process, to achieve the strength and grain benefits of hand forging with the economy and speed of rolled-plate.

Ian continues his journey today with his son and a hand-picked staff of forging experts. They founded Superior Aluminum Products to be the premier precision hand forging facility in North America.

Today Superior Aluminum Products is the only precision hand forging operation in the United States. Leading aviation and aerospace manufacturers as well as the U.S. military all rely on Superior for their forging needs.
